Morgan Charter…May 27 - June 3, 2014

We just completed the half-board on Catalyst for 7 days - it was phenominal! All island stops were well organized - every detail to include snorkling, swimming, customs, shopping, eating, & reservations were already considered and planned out by our Captain. The meals were delicious, down to the preparation, presentation and taste - with absolutely zero complaints. The catamaran is spacious with plenty of room on top to relax in the sun or take cover under the bimini for shade. The scenery was truly incredible, unlike any other place we've been. Snorkling allowed glimpses of beautiful fish, sea turtles, sting rays and many other sea life in the lovely blue and green clear ocean waters. Our favoirite stop was Saba Rock - watching the tarpin feeding. There was just the right amount of interraction with the Captain, very knowledgeable and he provided great detail on the history and stories of the different islands. A vacation truly designed for disconnecting with very limited decision making necessary. Jeffery Morgan

Dream vacation Bethann May Littleton, CO/USA Review Submitted June 8, 2012 Date of Stay May 30, 2012 Best vacation ever! Those words were said by all of us. This was the first vacation where our teenage son was not bored for one second. We are still daydreaming about all the fabulous memories we have of our week in paradise with Captain Al and his lovely girlfriend. They are two of the sincerest people I have every met. They kept us laughing and smiling everyday. From the moment we woke up until the moment our heads hit the pillow each night, our every whim was catered to. Each morning, we were treated to fabulous breakfast feasts. From there, we spent our days exploring secluded islands and beaches. Each day brought a new snorkeling, swimming, hiking or exploring adventure. The marine and land creatures we got to see were phenomenal! Between activities, we were served delicious lunches with plenty of rum punch/painkillers or whatever you were craving for your afternoon cocktail. Each evenings was spent in a different bay. Dinners were eaten at amazing beach restaurants with gorgeous views, lovely waitstaff and Captain Al always handy to make sure we were happy. Captain Al had great stories about each place we traveled to and made sure that we were in good hands when we explored an island with taxi service. Everywhere we went the locals seemed to know him and be pleased that he was back. The boat itself is very comfortable with private bedrooms and bathrooms. There is plenty of space to kick back relax and take an afternoon nap while sailing from island to island. Although we were miles away from civilization at times, it was always nice to communicate with friends and family through the boat's Wifi connection. I would highly recommend this boat and Captain Al to anyone looking for a dream vacation through the US and British Virgin Islands. The sea, people, food and islands are amazing! As Captain Al says at everynew mooring, "The pool is open". You won't be sorry you jumped into this adventure.

Captain Alan and Catalyst: Our family just returned from a week long charter aboard Catalyst. Captain Al navigated the beautiful Caribbean Sea with skill and knowledge. He demonstrated fine culinary skill, keeping this family of five, with three teenage boys, well fed and hydrated for the duration of our charter! This being our second charter in the Virgin Islands, Captain Al made it a whole new experience for us. He sought out new harbors, dive sights, restaurants and activities. Here are a few we’d like to share: Activities: Daily scuba diving was a highlight. Dive master Alan took us to new dive sites each day. Wakeboarding was a blast. Kayaking, snorkeling, and beautiful beach exploration ranked high on our list. Meals: Captain Al can serve up a feast. The boys are still raving about the fabulous meals he prepared. The bar is well-stocked. For those evenings we chose to eat out, Captain Al always had great restaurant suggestions. The catamaran: Catalyst was spacious and the pictures online are accurate. The bean bag pads over the trapeze were incredible for sunning and lounging! Recommendation high for Catalyst and Captain Al!

Yensen Family March4-12, 2012

Our 6-day charter aboard Catalyst was wonderful in every regard. Our family of four (including two college-age daughters) loves water activities and was drawn to Catalyst because it offered so many. We did it all - snorkeling, water skiing, tubing, paddle surfing, kayaking - in incredibly beautiful mooring spots, and still had plenty of time to relax in the sun and take some island hikes. We ate all our meals on board. You cannot imagine how well you will eat; every one of our requested favorite meals was exquisitely prepared, delicious and reminded us of eating at a high-end restaurant (no kidding; it's that good). The crew went out of their way to purchase items we had asked for and is very adept at accommodating different dietary needs. One other feature Catalyst offers; Captain Roberts seven years' experience sailing the Virgin Islands. We chartered during a very busy time of year, and on numerous occasions his knowledge of the area got us to great mooring spots before they filled up. We also had two days of very high winds and rough seas, but he safely got us where we wanted to go and selected mooring sites that provided the smoothest possible overnight stays. We cannot imagine having a more relaxing, enjoyable week than what we had on Catalyst. We know you'll have a similar experience. The Yensen Family Falls Church, Virginia

Alan, Celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary on the Catalyst was our best vacation ever. The Virgin Islands provide a beautiful setting for such a special time and you helped us get the most out of them. From the charm and serenity of places like Cooper's Island to the adventure and stunning beauty of Virgin Gorda every stop was perfect and unique. This is the vacation against which all of our others will be measured. And the S/V Catalyst makes the prefect base from which to enjoy the islands. The outstanding captain and crew, spacious quarters, wide variety of water toys and especially the bean bag beds in the trampoline make this an exceptional vessel. But the most exceptional feature of the Catalyst is the food that comes out of her galley. Every meal, snack and beverage was worthy of a five star restaurant with service to match. You've managed to create a vacation fantasyland and we consider ourselves fortunate to have been able to enjoy some time there. Thanks Byron and Marilyn Dagley

Eliers Dec 19-26, 2011

Monica and I, our twin 10 year olds, Jack and Olivia and my mother, Nancy recently set sail with Captain Alan for a week on the Catalyst. We travel often and have enjoyed beach vacations throughout the world, but nothing compared to this. The British Virgin Islands are beautiful and Alan is an outstanding captain, chef and fantastic guide. He and the entire experience truly exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, we kicked of our shoes and never put them back on for a week. We awoke each morning to the smell of fresh coffee and bacon or pancakes. We then sailed from island to island for a day of hikes, snorkeling, inner tubing, wake boarding, stand up paddle boarding and beach activities. When we were on the boat, there was plenty of room to spread out. Each afternoon we'd have cocktails and snacks on the boat and frequented Foxy's, the Willy T, Myett's and the like each night. Alan outdoes himself with the food and drinks, so be sure to take advantage of his skills as a chef. We had never stayed on a boat and are not sailors, yet we were comfortable the entire trip. We never once worried about the safety of our kids and they absolutely loved the experience. They are already asking when we can do it again. If you are considering a trip aboard the Catalyst, I can highly recommend it. This was a truly unique experience. Sean

Jacobs Testimonial

To all the ships at sea/and/those that want to be,
It is my best educated guess that anyone looking at this post is most likely contemplating a trip down the islands-way, and most likely you are considering Capn.' Al and his fine ship the Catalyst. I would also guess that you are looking for some sort of information or feedback on what just such a trip might entail...sailing?...what's the food like? it mostly sight-seeing or more interactive? it gonna' be boring?...are there different islands, or just a few?...can it be family friendly, or can it be tailored to a more adult oriented adventure?...what are the quarters like?...will I be wet all the time? there life after death?...and finally, what are we here for?
If I wanted to be curt, brief, and to the point, I might answer somethin' like...Yes!...Good!...Action Packed!...Not Boring!...Endless Bays and Island destinations...Family or Not/you make the choice...More Space Than You Can Shake a Stick At...NOT WET ALL THE TIME...Let me tell you the secrets of life/death/why we're see, the Truth is...
But I digress.
Our time with Al and his ship was surely one of the most wonderful trips we have ever undertaken. You have to think of the Captain and the Catalyst as this wondrous combination of "Dream Enabling" over-achievers. You can make your own desires and wishes known, and they will make it happen, or, Al is just as likely to offer a list of way-cool possibilities that will have you exploring/entertaining the days and nights away. Really. I am all too aware of how trite and predictable a post like this can be to someone trying to make an informed decision about chartering the Catalyst...but I am telling you that this guy and his ship are the real deal. If you have some "vague" idea of what a combination snorkel/diving maybe/wonderful on-board food/great on-land dining destinations trip might be...Al can make it reality. And, do so in a fun and engaging way.
Now, for some highlights of the kind you too could look forward to:
Marvelous diving on the Rhone, at the Indians, also the Dogs...with turtles, rays, parrot fish, squid, and the ever present tarpon and barracuda...
Mooring on a quiet bay off: Cooper/Peter/Jost Van Dyke/Virgin Gorda/Mosquito Cay/St. John...AND having a gourmet class meal prepared and served by the Skipper hisself'! (Exactly what are you doing this evening that beats that? Come on! Pizza? TV? Bowling? Having a stare-down with your computer monitor and the internet? POSH.)
Hows' about starting the day with a tremendous breakfast prepared by the Man, allowing you time for a little snorkeling, followed by an interesting hike up to the exotic ruins of one of the several windmills/sugar plantations nearby? And what if virtually every inch of your journey was a photo op.? Huh?
Maybe one day you get to let the sails out, and glide ever-so-smoothly over to Virgin Gorda...where the world renown Baths await your snorkeling pleasure...where the island itself is worthy of a day of exploring, with great bars and restaurants at the handy...ending the evening with the sun setting over the Bitter End Yacht Club, as you toast the day, the setting, the romantic beauty of it all...AND the Capn'! (This is still about Al and the Catalyst.)
Of course any honest summary of the possibilities would be remiss if I didn't mention the unique, and world-class-fun drinking establishments at your disposal. How about we start with the William Thorntion?... an anchored bar/restaurant/dance floor floating ship of fun (Fools? Foolish Fun?) Just up a quiet little bay on Norman Island...we're just gettin' started...
Eventually you WILL wind up on Jost, and here we find Foxy's, Ivan's, and Sidney's Peace and Love, The Soggy Dollar... all bars you arrive at by boat , hit the water, swim to shore, swap soggy money for sheer now you must see that this stuff is NOT COMPLICATED.
So there...I said it...this post could go on for a LONG TIME, but I hope by now you get the gist of it. Simply put, Al is an expert at using his ship and his considerable skills to make your vacation exactly what you want...and that is really the only thing you need to know. AGAIN...HIS TALENT IS TO ALLOW YOUR INTERESTS TO BECOME REALITY.
So...ever so slowly, stop reading these endless and time consuming posts...charter the Catalyst...and in no time at all you too can be the one relating some unforgettable series of exotic events, and someone else can spend their evening in wonderment, reading and fantasizing about these out of this world adventures.

Thanks again to Al and the Catalyst...
From Kim...and Teri...and Dave...and Carolyn...
